Sometimes, it can be difficult to stay motivated. However, in order to do your best work, you have to stay on task. There's several things I do each day in order to motivate myself. Check them out!
Create a Space you WANT to Work in
No matter if you work from a cubical or remotely, you should be able to create at space that you feel happy and relaxed working in so you can be productive. I personally like to work outside when working remote because the sounds of nature and the vitamin D from the sun keep me happy and focused. When working at a desk, I like to put a plant or two nearby as well as some pictures. At the risk of sounding like someone's mother, you must keep your work space clean. There's no doubt about it, clutter causes stress!
Make a To-Do List
Make a to-do list, and hold yourself accountable to it. It helps me to rank them in order of importance so anything that is time sensitive would go at the top of the list. Tell yourself what you want to accomplish that day and then do it. No excuses. Remember that it's important to cross things off the to-do list but only if you've done them properly. Sometimes that means waking up earlier, or eating lunch at your desk. Accomplishing what you need to for the day will make your time off feel that much better.
From coffee to a weekend getaway, use the age-old system of positive reinforcement to motivate yourself. It's not just for kids! Make your to-do list, as described above, and then when you finish it, reward yourself. Did you finish more than half your to-do before noon? Sounds like you've earned a nice lunch out. Or maybe over the course of the last week you've consistently meet your goals and exceeded them. Reward yourself by taking a weekend trip, you've earned it!
Map Out Your Goals
Speaking of meeting and exceeding your goals, its important to map out what exactly these goals are so you know when you reached them. You've heard it before, I'm sure, but the S.M.A.R.T. method is perfect for this. It stands for Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, and Timely. If you want more info on the S.M.A.R.T. method check it out here.
No matter what business you're in, it's important to be able to stay motivated. That's why it is so great to be doing something you love. Passion truly is the best motivator. I am lucky enough to be in marketing which is something I enjoy.
